So just dumped a 2.5g batch into a new 3.5g pail. I assumed my 5 and 6.5g pail lids would fit. Guess I was wrong. I just went and bought a lid for 3.5/5/7 gallon pail and it dosent fit either. Right now I just have alid sitting on there loose but don't want that long term obviously. What can I do?

Hate to bump this but need some help!!!!
Need some kind of lid as krausen is getting high.

I would just leave it be, unless it is in a place that you don't want a little mess on the floor. Some of the krausen may overflow on to the floor, but there should be enough CO2 to keep the O2 out.

I have been using some 12 gallon plastic fermenters that have lids that don't really seal like your normal 5-7 gallon ale pails, they make a little mess when the krausen gets high, but i have yet to have any issues.

I say just leave the lid sitting on top and ride it out.

Saran wrap under the lid (with a small hole to the airlock) might be an option to keep oxygen out,
