OK, first off, I knew better I just didn't stop to think about it... :)

I decided to "step-feed" my cider another 4# of sugar (table sugar) to boost the ABV, so I opened up my plastic BMB and dumped a tablespoon or so of yeast nutrient in there. I saw the foaming caused by the nucleation points letting CO2 come out of solution. (Think Mentos with Diet Coke.) It didn't phase me. I proceeded to start dumping sugar out of the bag into the BMB and wonder of wonders, the CO2 once again came out of solution and started foaming all over the place. I probably lost about a quart or two of hard cider there.
I finally realized my mistake and went and mixed the remaining 2# or so of sugar with some water. It did not completely dissolve, but left enough crystals so that there was still some nucleation points, but nowhere near as bad as dumping dry sugar in there. :)
