I have a porter recipe that calls for WLP820 which ferments at 52-58°F but the recipe says to ferment at Ale temps which is what 65-75°F. Does that sound right or is the recipe wrong. The recipe is from a friend and I don't know where he got it and he has never brewed this beer.

I think this yeast can tolerate up to the mid-60s without giving you too many off-flavors. I'd probably opt for a different yeast in a porter, but you may be okay if that's what you have.

I'm no veteran, but I seem to remember recently reading this is what Anchor Steam does. I actually had the same question. Out of necessity they brewed ales with lager yeast . I'm interested to try it, but skeptical on flavor, and don't want to waste my money.

Are you sure it's not WLP028?

Baltic Porters are typically fermented with lager yeast.
