Kitchen sink beers

So with how busy the holidays can be, it can be difficult to get a brew day in around the end of the year. And since I didn't have the time to formulate a recipe, I decided to throw together a kitchen sink beer with all the excess grain I've accumulated over the past year.
I think I got some Vienna malt, various crystal malts and some aromatic. For hops its mostly cascade with some other things.
Has anybody else made a kitchen sink beer and had good success? Any terrible failures? I'm thinking of making this a yearly tradition.

I made one in back in 2009 and it was just ok. I broke it out this year and it was pretty good so I sent it to a competition and won a silver metal as an Old Ale.

I'm doing one of these this weekend. Spring cleaning, out with the old (malt) in with the new.
