I noticed something strange this evening. I kegged my Hefeweizen on Friday and force carbed it. Took a taste last night and it was mildly carbed and very good.

I took a taste tonight and it was delicious, very carbonated, but still no head.

I was confounded, so I jacked up my serving pressure to 12 PSI and voila, a beautiful head that stays until the last drop.

I'm just confused as to how two pints of beer, poured within 10 minutes from each other into the same glass could have such vastly different head properties? The only difference was the serving pressure.

Or your glass had some film from teh soap used to clean it on the surface. the first glass had no head becase the soap killed it. The second didn't encounter soap, thus the head was normal. It requires only trace amounts of soap to kill the head on beer--- traces so small they are not enough to effect taste.

Kornkob, you know how serious we are around here. One of these JD's is BOUND to make that joke in every thread about head. And if they don't, then I will!

Since I started kegging, I have noticed improved head retention....that is the head is lasting longer and is more enjoyable....

A buddy of mine used to work in a movie theatre concession stand..and he was trained to touch the side of his nose with his finger and to touch the head of the coke with that same finger to kill the head when filling. NO KIDDING.
I tried it at home, and it really works.
I always look for this when I go to a fast food place...but haven't seen it yet.

Cheers.

Nothing like a little nose grease to kill the surface tension.

I think I'll take the head over the nose job anyday!
