I've seen conflicting measurements on the diameter of a corny keg. I need to make some cutouts so that I can measure chest freezers. Is it 8.5" or 9"?

Mine is exactly 8.5". <- Cornelius brand.

IIRC, the Firestone/Spartanburg brand kegs are slightly shorter and fatter, which could be where the 9" figure comes from. I seem to remember FS/Spartanburg kegs working better with certain short models of mini fridges.

I thought that one diameter was for ball-lock and the other for pin-lock...but I don't know for sure....

Just play it safe and get something that would hold the larger diameter ones..
