I'm brewing Janet's brown ale from Jamil's Classic Beers book.

It calls for WLP001, but I have either some harvested WLP051 (Cal Ale V) that I could do a starter with or US-05 dry yeast.

Which do you think would be the best choice...I'm on the fence with this. :drunk:

Well, I've read on hbt that US-05 and WLP001 are the same strain. In any case, they are certainly similar (I've used both). I have no experience with WLP051, sorry.

In my experience, US-05 will attenuate more than wlp001. I would probably go with the 051 as some body in this beer is key, IMO.

I brewed that with WY1272 (same strain as 051 IIRC). Came out really good. Had a little banana ester thing for a while (only used this yeast once for that beers so don't know if that's normal) but once that cleared up it was awesome.
