Is this the beginning of stuck fermentation?

I am 24 hours into my first batch (a red ale) . Everything seems to have gone well but my air lock is only getting bubbles every 40-60 seconds or so. Should I be seeing more action?

I'm using the standard Ale Pail bucket for the primary so I am unable to actually see anything. Is it okay open the lid or would this disturb the initial fermentation stage?
 
Sometimes, especially if it's warm, an ale will ferment out pretty quickly. I've had it happen overnight, but it's not the usual pattern.

I'm guessing that you pitched the yeast when the wort was pretty warm, and/or the temperature is a bit higher for this fermentation.

No worries! Wait a week or two before checking the SG, and try to keep it at a good fermentation temperature in the meantime.
 
I pitched the yeast at 68 degrees and got reading of 1.060 which on track per the recipe. I read a few conflicting paragraphs stating you should do another reading 24 hrs later and another article stating to wait 4-5 days. The temperature is still 68. I Just think I'm being overly cautious .
 
Unless you're testing your fermenter to be sure it's air-tight, I'd think a lack of bubbling activity would just indicate you have a slight leak somewhere around the lid or the airlock grommet.

Relax, enjoy. I'd wait at least 2 weeks before checking the Gravity.
 
I did re-check the seals and everything is tight. I did pitch 2 packets of Nottingham's Dry yeast-ale on 7/04. I did not do a starter as I was told i could sprinkle the yeast right in. I had aerated with paddle for a good 10 minutes. I have been at a constant 66-68 degrees.

The bubbles did speed up by Monday (7/05) about 10-15 seconds apart and has now eventually slowed down to 30 seconds.

As this is my first batch I was under the impression that the bubbles should be more constant.

Should I be doing anything more during this phase? Should I add a yeast energizer?

I just went through this with my batch, except mine ended in failure because I tried to fix it. Listen to Yooper. Fermentation can happen that quickly and it isn't necessarily anything to worry about. Especially since you pitched a lot of yeast. I would leave it alone.
