Is British 2-Row Malt the same as American 2-Row Malt?

I have a recipe calling for British 2-Row Malt and my LHBS only sells American 2-Row Malt. Is that going to be ok? Making an oatmeal stout.

Probably not. The English malt is probably going to be a different barley cultivar and kilned a little differently (a little darker and a lot more flavorful). There's a number of different British 2 row malts with similar but distinct flavors. I forget which maltster it is, but one of em sells a "pale malt" without listing a dedicated cultivar that is supposedly a blend of the best of that crop year, or something like that. So that'd be a good generic "English" character without having to get specific. Personally, I'd say you can't go wrong with Maris Otter.

They sell English Maris Otter Pale Malt. I assume that's what your talking about. Sorry, second all grain attempt.

That would be exactly what I'm talking about. Maris Otter is my favorite base malt. I use it for all my English styled beers as well as my occasional American styled beers.
