is 1028 too low for yeast starter

Maybe a lame question ..

Was thinking of using the 1/2 G remains of second runnings for yeast starter ... looks to be abt 1024 - 1028 (but it is much warmer than 70 deg, which is what the hydro is calibrated at)

Should I bother ? I have read 1040 is the target for a 2L starter...

1.028 would be fine for a yeast starter.

It's on the low end, but the general range is 1.030-1.040 for healthy yeast. Lower gravity starters are easier on the yeast but result in less yeast growth. For instance, if you're trying to revive an old or frozen or highly stressed yeast, a 1.020 starter would be good.

besides.. if it is much above 80F your reading is low anyhow so it's probably in the right range
