My first brew, my first Irish and my last Irish was the one and only extract w/grains kit I ever did.

Now, I want so more, so here is my work up for an Irish Red.

Comments please.

Fermentables

Belgian Vienna Malt 4lb 7oz
Belgian Munich Malt 4lb 7oz
German CaraRed 2lb 3oz
US Caramel 40L Malt 8.00 oz
US Roasted Barley 2.00 oz

Hops

UK Fuggle 29 g Bagged Pellet Hops 45 Min From End
UK Golding 29 g Bagged Pellet Hops 10 Min From End

Looking at a mash of 154 for 60, and Notty for the yeast

Looks like a good red. I prefer a tiny bit of chocolate malt over roasted barley, but that's just a personal thing. I think it adds a little more complexity to my reds.

For me personally that's a bit too much CaraRed, which is a caramel malt after all. But I like the use of Munich and Vienna, and using the nottingham should help dry it about more, which might balance the excess in caramels.

Never thought of that....thanks

What if i drop the Carared to 1 pound
and then up either the Munich or Vienna by a pound?

Do you think 2oz of roasted barley might be too much?
