It's been a few years since I brewed. I had some time off and got excited this week, cleaned my equipment, and hastily threw a beer together with what was available at my lhbs. It's in the fermenter right now bubbling away. In hindsight, might be kind of gross. Any theories on how this one might turn out?

Method: Extract
Style: Irish Red
Boil Time: 60 min
Batch Size: 5 gallons
Boil Size: 6.5 gallons

Original Gravity: 1.053
Final Gravity: 1.011
ABV (standard): 5.5%
IBU: 27.5
SRM: 13.9

6lbs Muntons Amber DME
1lb Caramel 40L (steeped)
1lb Honey Malt (steeped)
1 oz US Fuggle (60 min)
1oz Fuggle (15 min)
Nottingham Yeast

I'd call it a strong bitter. Isn't Irish red meant to be much more bland, like nitrokeg ale?

Looks like it could be a good beer, but I feel it would benefit from a little roasted barley to really be an Irish Red. Also, there is typically little or no hop flavor or aroma in an Irish Red.

Yeah, that is true. Something like Killians has no noticeable hop aroma or flavor. Also, I figure this beer is going to be pretty darn sweet (hopefully not undrinkable), and I'm not sure that Irish Reds are so sweet. I'm not sure what to call it. Maybe the first response is right, and it is a kind of ESB. Maybe a honey esb on roids.

I'd expect pale malt, bittering hops, brewers caramel and a bit of crystal for colour and flavour for the proper stuff:-D
