I haven't brewed an extract batch in about a year... Been doing 12 gallon all grains, and am looking to just knock out a fast batch!

I would like to make an IPA. I will need to get some extract and DME, but I do have plenty of hops on hand....

I have some Amarillo, simcoe, Colombus, magnum, cascade, and a few others..

Does anyone have a good recipe suggestion? I also have a handful of specialty malts that I could grind up. Just looking to do a casual brew today, without breaking out my whole all grain system and making a yeast starter!!

Find an IPA recipe you like (sounds like you have done a few). Use the speciality grains from that and replace the rest of the grains with 2-row.

Add a pound of sugar to help offset the lowish fermebtability of the extract.

Here's the recipe for an IPA I brewed in January - it's something I developed in hopes of it being my house IPA. I just bottled it last weekend so I'll be getting a taste in a week or two. Looks like you have all the hops for it except the Citra, but you could probably leave that out or replace with one of the Cascade/Amarillo/Simcoe trio. I'll try to remember to update back here when I get my first taste.

This sounds really nice. Is this a 5 gallon batch? Full boil? Partial boil? :mug:

5 gallon batch, boil was 3.5 gallons. Tasting the first one tonight - been in bottles for just over two weeks so hopefully it's all carbed up!

I have only been doing extract kits at this point so I like picking up good ideas and reviews to incorporate into my own. Looking at taking the next step into all grain brewing soon but for the time being I am always on the hunt for ideas to improve my current beer.

Wow... I have all of those exact hops in my freezer right now and have been looking for an excuse to use them. Maybe I'll give this a try!

However if I'm doing an IPA I'd like it to be a little higher ABV. Should I just add more extract? I'll have to convert it over to LME too.

Sugar maybe?

My standard is 5# light DME, some crystal, and either cascade or chinook. (5 gal batch)

How was it?

Had the first taste last night - delicious! It might not have been completely carbonated (which is weird - it's been in a 70 degree closet for 2.5 weeks; racked on to 135g of priming sugar/water mix on bottling day), so I'm going to wait a few more days before throwing a couple more in the fridge. Not very bitter, but a whole lotta fruity/floral hop nose. All those 15/5/0/dry additions give it a really powerful hop aroma. Next time I make this I'll probably leave the Cascade/Amarillo/Simcoe/Citra as is, and play around with some other bittering hops. But I was really impressed with Nugget on this one.
