Ya know what a 20 minute helicopter ride to a trauma center costs?

12 thousand dollars.

$12,000

I think I sharted when I opened that bill.

That's just the trip there.

Then the meter starts at the hospital.

Trauma center's are expensive too.

Then there's intensive care units.

And physical therapy.

Gotta love insurance!

Ibuprofen? We're talking Propofol, Fentanyl, and a few other high end chemicals.

Not to mention a team of orthopedic specialists.

Multiple CT scans and x-rays.

Makes me feel better about all that money I've been paying every month.

My wife was in the hospital for a total of about 6 months when she was pregnant with our daughter. The bill topped $100k!

did you slip off the porch?
Nope. Daughter got hit by a car. Fractured her pelvis in 3 places. She's recovered enough now that I can start worrying about the bills and I'm glad I'm probably not gonna be paying most of 'em..

Don't sweat it. Though I wouldn't mind if you took the pic off your post so I didn't have to look at it every time I open the thread. :p

She's also healed enough that we can make jokes about it now....

Her: All I remember is waking up with a big tube stuck down my throat.

Me: And you didn't even get bought dinner first!

the best part of recovery is the easy life laying arround and not re-injuring yourself.
Yeah, she's been enjoying that part. No school, no chores, TV and Guitar Hero all day. But she's starting to get up and around a little bit now with help of a walker so she's losing her servants (her mother and I) since she can get a pillow from her room herself now.

But I'll have the last laugh. I'm brewing tomorrow and she doesn't get to help! Bwahahahaha!

errr, wait...

who sent you the bill, the insurance company or the hospital?

i'm not understanding why insurance companies are getting the heat and not the providers?

I think it was from the operator of the helicopter. We got the same and just submitted to the insurance company

It's cause the insurance companies argue that a 20 minute heli ride isn;t worth $5k and only pay 2.5. So, the heli operator doubles the fee to get what he should have gotten in teh first place.

Not sending any heat there at all. I wasn't being sarcastic! Seriously... insurance rocks! I'm quite happy paying a $100 deductable for them to pick up the other $11,900. :ban:

I haven't even seen a bill yet for the ambulance ride to where the helicopter was able to land, but I'm sure it'll come.

The helicopter bill was from the airlift company themselves, before they got my insurance info. They're billing insurance now and I probably won't even see any of it.

Eventually, I'll get a notice of benefits from my insurance company showing everything they paid. I'm sure it'll be freakin' huge.

My daughter's dissapointed that she went on a 12-thousand dollar helicopter ride and she doesn't even remember it! I told her she was strapped to a plank with a big tube down her throat... she probably doesn't want to remember it.

when i had e surgery for a ruptured bowel my bill was around 33k for 4 day/nights in hosp.

the biggest thing i got from iit is a complete lack of understanding of why oxycotin is so popular. course i don't like feeling loopy drunk and nausus(sp) without being drunk on the way there.

Yeah, we were really pleased with how she was treated at the hospital. The only problem was a lack of communication. She was scheduled for surgery, then they decided not to operate, then they were, then they extubated her because they weren't, then they didn't know why she was extubated because an OR was waiting for her. Even a day later there were doctors coming in asking why she was given dinner because she was supposed to go in to the OR in a few hours. LOL Too many doctors with too many different plans!

Sounds like their administration needs tightening.

When I had insurance, I never needed it. Now, I would have to double my income to pay for it.
