This might be an old concept, but I just wanted to share a simple in line thermometer technique that wont break the bank. Cost total of about $12 and have an easy to clean/sanitize in line thermometer compared to the expensive one.

Material list:

Fermentor sticker thermometer thing (technical term)
1/2" female with 3/8" male adapter X 2ea
1/2 male x 4" extender
Teflon tape

I apologize in advance if this is someone elses' idea, its just seemed so simple not to share with everyone.

I would imagine this application would be more accurate than on the side of the carboy. Here, the majority of your heat transfer is happening as the wort flows through the pipe. Resolution isn't great, but it give you a ballpark. Might be kinda slow, though.

Cool idea!
