I just bought a new Inkbird ITC 308 Wifi and as soon as I plugged it in I realised the temperature was way off. Sent an email to their support and was told that they are going to send me a new probe which I will have to attach by cutting the existing probe off and wiring the new one in its place. This means I'll end up with a patched up wire that I wouldn't trust to last for very long (electric tape will eventually come off). That's beside the fact that it will just look bad.

Do you think this is reasonable? I would have thought they would immediately say: Oh, we are so sorry. We are sending you a replacement of the entire deivce right away.

I agree a full replacement is in order. Have you pushed back on them yet?

Cheers!
Yes, I did and they have said they will replace the unit (got the email from them within a few minutes of posting here!)
I'm much happier now and hopefully won't have a problem with the next one.

Did you order it direct from Inkbird? One of the few remaining advantages of Amazon Prime is free returns for any reason.
No, I got it off Amazon (not Prime). It looks like they will replace it without me having to return the faulty unit, which is a big plus as I'd have to ship it to the US from here in Trinidad & Tobago and that would probably not make it worth it.

BTW, the probe on my (non-wifi) ITC-308 has a plug that makes replacing it a piece of cake should it ever be necessary. Hard wiring it seems to be the opposite of an ungrade.

I’ve looked at the replacement probe kits, and you actually open up the case and solder the new probe wires to the board. You don’t cut the wires normally.

This is a copy and paste from their email:

Hello,
The probe may have some problem. And because of your product is within the one-year warranty period, we will reissue a new probe for you, please provide your name, address and phone number.
This is the steps for changing the probe (please refer to attached pictures about how to replace the probe):
Please
①Unplug the controller, cut the cable of the probe.
②There have two wires in the cable, please connect them with the cord of the replace probe.
③Please use insulating tape/heat-shrink tubing to protect the connection.
Thanks
Cassie

When I read your first post my thought immediately was, why aren't they sending him a whole new unit? I would have been very upset if they said I had to cut and splice new wires. I would have sent a photo of it in the garbage can. LOL. Glad they made it right. There used to be a poster that was part of Inkbird here if I remember correctly. Wonder what he or she would have to say about this?
