Just opened my Grainfather fermenter after a transfer 9 days into the fermentation. I have a ring round on top of the krausen line that looks suspiciously dark. It’s also right on top of where the heating element ends, so not sure if it’s infected or heat crust (if that’s a thing at all).

Any experience or insight with this for the Grainfather Conical? It smells and taste fine from the samples, although very hop burn-y.

Is this the first time you used it? Did you clean it well beforehand? Kind of looks like buildup of the oils that are likely part of the making of the unit.
Barkeepers Friend should take care of the issue going forward.

First use yeah. PBW then Starsan before filling. Could probably have done some scrubbing with soap pre-PBW, just hoping I didn’t ruin the batch!

I think the recommended procedure is Barkeepers Friend, rinse and sanitize.
