I have planned, I have researched, I have spent, .. not in this order! I think I'm ready and tomorrow is brew day. I have every thing I always wanted and more.
I'm standing here finishing the last of the brew I made with the Mr beer kit,(not bad but not good either), thinking why did I pick a lager for my first 5 gallon batch?
And why did I pick a bud clone knowing that I want to brew somthing I would enjoy and share with my freinds! Dang, too late to turn back now seeing is how I got all this new stuff and the rice extract recipe and all. I want it to turn out good but at the last minute I'm thinking, "what was I thinking' !!! I dunno maybe a pointer or three . And why can't I use my 10 gallon aluminin,... Dang spell checker!... peanut cooker for a brew kettle. I have read so many 101's till now I haven't a clue!
Any last minutes before I go head first into my new found passion?

Thanks in advance....

Just relax take your time with the first brew. It not hard unless you make it hard/frustrating. Make sure your ferment temps are right, I just did my first lager a week ago, and today I finally got some activity out of the air lock when I took it out of the cooler, shook it up, and let the yeast get back up to about 65 degrees. I let it drop below 50 a few times and the yeast got lazy, and never got to work. I started out doing all grain brew, and not even following recipes, just making my own. I learned a lot in a short period of time, and had to drink a lot of beer that wasn't great but wasn't terrible. So a clone isn't a bad Idea. Good luck:mug:

BREATH!
Even if it is a Bud clone, it will taste better than any Bud you ever had and your friends will like it.
You can use your aluminum pot if you want to, it won't hurt your beer unless it's dirty or something.
Just follow the instructions, check with us if you have a problem, and most importantly, HAVE FUN.

Congrats on starting your first brew. Here are a couple of pointers, if I may:
  • Leave yourself plenty of time. I think my first batch took around 4 hours including sanitizing everything at the beginning and cleaning up at the end -- make sure you have a nice chunk of time so you won't feel rushed. Remember, it's a hobby, it's supposed to be fun!
  • Sanitation is very important, but don't get overly-stressed about it. That's not to say that you should be careless or lazy, but at the same time realize that someone can fart/burp/sneeze/hiccup in the same room as your sanitized fermenter and it won't ruin your beer. :D
  • You will think you screwed something up and ruined your beer. I think it happened to all of us our first time. Don't worry, sit back and relax, and search here for the answer. Chances are good that someone asked the exact same question before, and the answer was most likely "Your beer will be fine, just give it time." And don't dump it out before searching here first ...
  • Be patient! Your beer will take time, so just give it the time it needs to do its business and you'll be fine. The first one is the hardest one to wait for. It also helps to have multiple batches fermenting at the same time, then the wait isn't so bad. :)
Good luck!
