Gonna take a stab at building a RIMS. Bought a 1500W/120V ULD heating element but it's like 7" long. I'm going to mount it in 2" PVC piping and it barely sticks out of the tee.
I'm thinking I should have bought a 5500W/240V element and used it on 120V. Probably would have been longer.

Anyone use these short elements?
Anyone make a RIMS out of 2" PVC?

poobah, I have done both. I started with a 2 inch PVC heat exchanger with 1500 watt element. Worked fine.

I now use 1 inch copper with the 1500 watt element. Works just as well.

Thanks ML,
How long was the element and what was the overall length of the HEX?

The element was just a standard 1500 watt element so maybe 6 or 7 inches. I started with a PVC HEX that was maybe 12 inches long. I now use a 1" copper Hex cut just long enough to fit the element.

The PVC does get soft at higher temps and can start to leak depending on how much teflon tape you put in.
