I got a starter kit for Christmas and of course brewed the next day. I've been drinking the first batch for a bit now and thought it was pretty good...not great but good. Anyway I gave some away and gave instructions to put it in the fridge on Friday and drink Superbowl Sunday. The good news is everyone loved it...the bad news is they want more ;) It was a Liberty Cream Ale kit from Midwest and the comments I've gotten are basically "Wow, there's a lot of flavor in this..it's malty, a bit more hoppy than I'd expect from a beer (BMC drinkers), but damn it's good".

Personally, I think it's good, not fantastic, but good. Hopefully the Irish Red that will be ready to drink the weekend will be "really good" and my Belgian that's in the fermenter will be ...well I'll settle for drinkable, but I'm hoping for homebrew nirvana.

Hey congrats and welcome to the hobby!

I just made my first cream ale recently and the one week test bottle was pretty tasty. The one I've enjoyed the most so far is the Blood Orange Hefe recipe from Extreme Brewing. But I've made several beers that I thought were average as well, good thing is they're still beer, heh.

Enjoy.
