Those are great pictures Dan. I am glad you got to spend some family time. Someday I have to get to Hawaii. Those pictures are like a travel agent. Looks much warmer than BikerMatt's photo of Finland.

Thanks Albert! When you get here first rounds are on me. And I'm going to take you to the Polynesian Culture Center. It's amazing beautiful and a history lesson that won't put you to sleep. At the end of the day (it's a 1300-2030 day) an unbelievable fire twirling expedition after dinner. Unreal!

If you like shrimp and garlic we'll go to the best shrimp place on Oahu - Giovanni's. Food truck that's earned its own half acre of land cause it's that good and needs the room for seating. Always a line and I'm the first to turn down a crowded line. For Giovanni I make an exception.

Aloha my brother
Dan

Aloha LabRat!

Hey late nighters,

Some news from the CGVT home. My daughter has applied and has been accepted at Emory University and NYU. She has already visited Emory and is going to visit NYU next weekend. Although we would like for her to go to Emory because it is closer to home, she has had her heart set on NYU for quite a while and has pretty much made up her mind...

Exciting times for an 18 year old.

For your Saturday morning listening pleasure, Caroline does a Beatles tune:

@CGVT Congratulations to your daughter and your family!!
My daughter was a nurse at Emory for two years, met a doctor and is currently a stay at home mom raising my granddaughter. It was nice having them close by until he was offered a job at John Hopkins.

That's fantastic CGVT! Your girl is starting another adventure in life and with her passion and creativity I know it will be historic.
Cheers brother!

Not sure what to say next other than this girl really made me realize the meaning of Danny Boy. I'd always heard it was a fathers song to a son that went to war but realized it is a song from a woman to her man in war

Our Southern California Homebrew Fest is only a little more than 2 weeks away. Man planning a fest is a lot of work. We should have 1200-1600 homebrewers. 40+ clubs pouring. We have the entire camp ground rented out. This is our 26th Fest.

That sounds like quite a to-do. I hope you can carve out some time to have a beer or two.

Two of three boys will not even try this: 1 of three loves it!

I miss you guys. I've been lurking, don't worry.

Kitchen remodel going on here:

Not much to work with but it will be nice. Almost 20 years since we bought this place. The kitchen is the last room to remodel...

We're hoping to build in a few years. We will sell or rent this house. I think the boys are nearly done destroying it;)

That's cool Ischiavo! Also love the view of the before walls. I always wonder what it looks like before the drywall is put up especially when I put a screw in to hang something. You're building so you'll know. That's a good comfort. Have fun and keep us updated with the progress

Cheers!

I pulled the toilet in upstairs bathroom. It rocked back and forth since I bought this house but I never considered it that much of an inconvenience. The toilet did its job well [emoji106]

Then, one day t I flushed it; Water came out of the base....oops

So last weekend I pulled the toilet to replace the wax ring with a rubber one. Don't know how that will hold up, the rubber is suppose to be better than wax. It's definitely less messy.

My wife decided (before I put the toilet back in) that we should re-tile because it was long overdue. Just some peel and stick, not ceramic.

Turned out nice and my wife did most of the intricate cuts. She did a nice job! I had to shim the toilet quite a bit to get it to sit level, the flange is above the floor. I think that's why it rocked before. Quite a bit of shim and silicone caulking to fill in the gap the shins made. I hate caulking but the cheap project turned out well. Now we need to paint the walls to match. I know that's backwards.

Would love to do what You did Ischiavo, not at that skill level yet. [emoji4]

Cheers!
Dan

I've seen you and your wife pull off some pretty nice projects Dan. I think you would pick up any skills you need pretty quick. YouTube is a great resource too.

I've only been able to spend a few days on the kitchen since the picture. I at least have the wiring roughed in and almost all the blocking for the cabinets. Should be hanging drywall pretty soon.

Thank you brother Leon[emoji3]. I reckon you're correct, it's just always awe inspiring to see a before down to the studs and wiring/plumbing runs skeleton to the finished room.

Before, I was not to Leary of putting a screw through drywalled room of my own home.. still not real worried about that but I do give 3-4" clearance. Just oils be really cool to have accurate schematics of a wall. You got that now.

I'm sure it is wonderful, unfortunately it won't play on my phone. I know it must be creative, funny and meaningful. Your daughter is very talented. I'll try again later when I'm at at laptop or pc

Does anyone have a good ginger ale recipe? Non alcoholic. I'm looking to replace soda, Coca Cola with a good crisp ginger ale with fizzzzzz. Going to keg it in a corny.
Cheers!

Hello late nighters!

My apologies for not posting...work has been crazy and since the baby has started sleeping at night so have the wife and I!

5 weeks left of school and all the craziness now starts! End of the year project is in full swing along with final teacher evaluations. Had mine this past week and my final conference with admin is coming up.

I've got to be honest, this has been my hardest year of teaching yet! With coaching and new curriculum I've been under a lot of stress...good thing there is HB in the keezer and the wife is a saint.

Got her a nice gift for Mothers Day tomorrow which I know she will appreciate.

Hope you all have a nice Mothers Day tomorrow! As my old varsity baseball coach once said, remember hug your mom, if you don't have a Mom hug the woman that influences you the most and thank her for all that she does!

Cheers and beers!

You know what is pretty great? Your kids growing up. Believe me when I say I'm not the best dad. I was gone, deployed many years, on many.

I must have done something right though wit my son and my youngest - we are tight!

Middle . Daughter I'm not a good Papa. I'm not bat to her. We just don't connect. Truth

Thank you! Thank you for your sharing. Your text reminds me of why people are beautiful, loving and caring. When we take care of each other; we take care of each other. We're all siblings. Mom takes care of us. One time a year she gets recognition

Mom's Day!!

Don't let an opportunity to give your mom a hug and tell her you love her slip by. Trust me, trust me trust me. You truly want to be loving, and caring, and appreciative to Mom.

Navy has it the hardest I think, being away alot. I was in army when I was single and definitely couldn't have done the Navy long term, I could've done other branches.

Took my first digger on the new dirt bike tonight. No injuries. It was exhilarating actually. I think I believe the videos that shoot down the stock tires now though and also the fork tie might be a good idea. I put on a lowering link and felt much more in control... For a while;)

Still working on the kitchen... Nothing of much interest to show yet. I'll be back. Have a good one friends.

I haven't done ginger yet, but I've been putting the juice from ~2 limes into 5 gallons of filtered water and carbing it at 30 PSI.
