Man it's windy today, bright and sunny too. Probably just Autumn , even in HawIi we have it

I hope a storm isn't coming in

I woke up this AM with a sore back. Feck. Did a bunch of tile work yesterday and guess I tweaked it at some point. Was planning on grouting tonight, but that's not gonna happen now.

Been walking crooked all day.

Me too. I think I just laid around too much yesterday. It was my first real day off for a while so I watched a bunch of movies ( I never do that). I paid for it today but I think I worked it out now.

I used travertine to do a deck for a drop-in tub, but then I wasn't sure how to finish the edge. I found some travertine chair rail that is a pretty close match. I'm gonna use liquid nails tonight to put those pieces up (if my wife picks up the LN on way home from gym). I can't even get in/out of my car right now. Suck!

This guy died yesterday. Not the first time I've posted this video on this thread. For your late nite listening soundtrack, Leon Russell. Man this guy was good.

"Stranger In A Strange Land"

How many days has it been
Since I was born
How many days until I die
Do I know any ways
That I can make you laugh
Or do I only know how to make you cry

When the baby looks around him
It's such a sight to see
He shares a simple secret
With the wise man

He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

How many miles will it take
To see the sun
And how many years until it's done
Kiss my confusion away in the night
Lay by side when the morning comes

And the baby looks around him
And shares his bed of hay
With the burrow in the palace of the king

He's a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

Well, I don't exactly know
What's going on in the world today
Don't know what there is to say
About the way the people are treating
Each other, not like brothers

Leaders take us far away from ecology
With mythology and astrology
Has got some words to say
About the way we live today
Why can't we learn to love each other
It's time to turn a new face
To the whole world wide human race

Stop the money chase
Lay back, relax
Get back on the human track
Stop racing toward oblivion
Oh, such a sad, sad state we're in
And that's a thing

Do you recognize the bells of truth
When you hear them ring
Won't you stop and listen
To the children sing
Won't you come on and sing it children

He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

I can imagine tiling a tub could mess up a back. Tile jobs get a guy in some awkward positions.

This was one of the easiest actually, actually. It's just the deck, and I could stand inside where the tub will eventually go. Not sure what I did (might have been me getting the tub home from the store, or a prehung door I bought Friday, or who knows what.

I'll post a pic - I took one.

If you look in the middle of the deck there, I've taped up one piece of the travertine chair rail. I think I'll get that up tonight, then tomorrow night grout everything and do the electrical for the tub pump (it's a whirlpool), then the next night drop the tub in there and get the spout installed, then finish the woodwork around the tub, then put the valve handles in the vertical face there on the right, then I'm done with the tub. Then get large mirrors installed and that bathroom is finished. Whew!

Looking good. It's funny how much is always left to do when you actually make a list;). My next project is our kitchen. I've been putting it off for years. At least it's a small kitchen...

Haha, that's so true.

I just tacked up a strip of 1/4 round to hold up the stone rail while the glue dries. That stuff is heavy and I'm sure the tape would not have held it.

Pappy hope you're feeling better. I suffer back ache on occasion and it sucks! I walk like an old man all crookedly So humiliating

Ischiavo! I doubt I'd be able to keep up your work pace. Sucks that you take a little time off iand your body screws you. I have Similar back problems as you when I rest to much. (Irony). I think my body responds best to abuse and rest....when one out weighs the other. Then I just shut down

Well, I don't work that much. I always keep way to many projects on my plate though for after work. I certainly feel better if I keep moving and don't let things seize up. I had an injury in college in my neck/upper back (bulged disks) my lower back is arthritis I'm told. The last few years I have been back working with tools. It makes a big difference.

Passed, I just noticed you use those wedge clips for your tile. I did the same on my last job. Those things are great.

Almost all better this morning. Yes, "walk like an old man" is exactly what happens. It's on days like yesterday that I'm happy I work from home so nobody sees me hobbling around like that.

Yes they are! I think they are mandatory for cut tiles like travertine because they minimizes the lipping between tiles. I used the same on the floors.

Osteophyte on my L5, osteo in my feet, and osteo in the connections of my clavical.

Too many hours swinging hammers in my early years. But nothing a little tramadol and a hot shower can't loosen up.

Only scary part is I am only in my 40's.

Yeah, 44 here. I try not to think about what 20 years from now will feel like. Hopefully they will make wonderful advances in back surgery;)

Great song, great artist.

I have tickets to see Tedeschi /Trucks in January. (great 6th row seats)
Leon was going to be the opening act.

I am bummed.

Chair rail edge is as good as I could have hoped for. I tacked up a piece of wood under the travertine chair rail pieces to keep them level, but the dang things were not identical, and some of them had a slightly different profiel. Still, it's pretty nice. Match to the travertine deck is pretty close. Grouted all. After some electrical work tomorrow, the tub goes in, then I'll tackle the tight-space plumbing. And at some point I'll add some wood to cover that crap on the walls.

Looks great!

Why not tile up the walls like it was? A wood surround sounds like trouble to me. I'm sure you're way ahead of me here...

I'm not ahead of you. I'm making this up as I go along. I thought about tiling up the walls, but I like the contrast of tile and white wood. I could be wrong. You'll have a front row seat to the results.

So what is that new frame for? Did I miss it? I thought you were nearly done.

It's the top. I'm mounting the taps on the vertical. I'll use the same planks. I actually got it together but to many flaws. That's what I get for staying up to late working on it and feeling rushed. It will all come together soon. I had planned to spend last weekend working on it but ended up spending most of the weekend at work. I was on-call and the weekend got super busy.

Great work you have going on there PP! I think tile would be s good idea. Wood, water, warmth. That combination might be asking for environmental growth.

I agree. The contrast is nice. Maybe some white tile? I just can't imagine painted wood holding up for long.

Painted will be okay. It is a bath after all and not a shower.

Right (and not likely to be used much). If the bath was used every day, and I thought a lot of water would get splashed out of it, I would definitely consider surrounding tile. Even if the wood gets wet, it'll be painted with latex paint, and it'll be plywood, which is dimensionally stable (shouldn't warp).

I did rebuild the shower, and those walls are concrete board and tile down into the poured concrete shower pan. My shower doubles as a bomb shelter :)
