Question. When you sell brew gear, how much percentage of the original value should a person expect on the sale?

I'm selling things like brewpots, CO2 bottle, a 50' 1/2" copper IC and other stuff that aside from aesthetics are as functional as the day I bought them new. Not much going to change a rock..

Some items I can appreciate will lose value. I'm not selling buckets, or grain, hops.. perishable shelf life stuff. .

Really depends on how the stuff looks and how old it is.

I'd clean it up and start with 75%-80% of the original purchase price and see how much interest it generates. If you're not getting much interest, drop the price by 10% and see. There's always someone who will buy at a low price, but you obviously don't want to give your stuff away for nothing.

Also, as you're in HI, I'd try to sell to a local. Shipping costs will probably turn almost everyone else off.

Not party friends that don't really help a fellow stay healthy. But friends who you trust and they trust you. They are the best people in the world in my opinion and will kick your @ss when you screw up.. Bring a guy back into the fold.

Friend are important. So are hobbies. Couples should enjoy some activity together and each should enjoy some activity alone. Of course, I don't practice what I preach. Your move to HI seems like it was a long play, don't let short (yet intense) set backs derail you.

Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson had a bond strong as a wedding band on the ring finger.

That is not to say they were gay lovers. Far from it.. I just put that up as an analogy.

You know, at one time they were good friend who became mortal enemies. It had something to do with a song Kris had written and John Cash sung but didn't give the man credit. I'm pretty sure as the story goes. Chris came to Johnny's house to confront him about that.. They settled their battle as good men do, and became once again, dear friends who continued a life of music together. Kris wrote many of Johnny Cash's songs.

I'm not sure if this is the song they battled over, I can't remember which one it was. But here is Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson singing together.

Johnny had the voice and aura, Kris wrote many of the songs JC sung. A duo really.. And lifetime partnership of two men, brothers.

mhurst! Good to hear from you! In regards to Kris K, I think in many ways he's a pretty humble guy. Maybe it was just around Johnny Cash, I don't know. Who wouldn't be? But, I just get a feeling he really is a very humble man.

Venting

I look at it this way folks. I'm really in all reality just about as flexible (politically?) as can be.

I grew up in the Midwest. Illinios. Central Illinios. I was far enough from Chicago not to be part of the big city. My folks were good people. My dad was a doctor, our home town doc (population 2,000) He was a good, godly man.. nough said.

My mom was from up north (60-70 miles; that used to be a lot)

Enough about me.. hmmm... where the eff was I going with this?

Oh yah.. Music!

I never lived in the hills of Tennesee, I never knew Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Junior (or his dad) Barbara Streisand, Kris krisoferson or even, what's that dudes name? Popular country artist back in the 80's? Garth Brooks.

But I do admit, even though I never met those guys, there music I enjoyed. I understand not everybody love country music. To be honest I don't love all of it either, however, country music is part of who I am.

So is rock and roll, blues and Mozart. Nothing wrong with that in my opnion. To put a rule, lock, restriction on what is good music is like icing down a lake and telling fish they can't swim.

So, I have no idea what I'm trying to tell you or proclaim. Maybe just this. (and it might get a bit heavy)

Regardless of our background, our skin color, or financial status. We are human beings. I could easily make a great controversial stance on a political side .. but I don't want to. and you don't want to hear that. WE are people who all have he same feelings in our hearts. We want love and acceptance. Family is the most important..

I suppose I'm old enough to realize I'm not perfect. Far from that you see. What is perfect? Up to opinion I suppose. Believe me when I was younger I thought I knew all! Truth is. I didn't know crap. Aint none of us perfect. Doesn't matter where you're born, financial status or any other thing. We either get along together - or we don't. Race, creed, political views. It doesn't really matter. If I, God forbid, was ever in a castatrophe. When my rescuers came, Do you think race, political party, what part of the country they came from;; I'd care about? Hell know! All I'd really care about is being saved. We get so caught up in opinions it divides us I suppose that is natural.. Did a higher power make us that way? WEll in my very biased mind if a man believes he is justified by color of skin or religion... he is nothing more than a 3rd grader bully who thinks cause he is ... you can fill the rest in.

I'm tired of war, I'm tired of people hurting each other. To be honest I do NOT GET IT!

Hey late nighters. Did my disappearing act again. Been a busy couple weeks. Getting my brew mistress trained up right. Been together a month and I've already got her harvesting hops with me....I think she's a keeper Got a bumper crop of CTZ this year. My centennial got ate up by something. Almost nothing left on the leaves but veins. Beetles maybe, IDK. Haven't been giving them much attention. Still got a half pound of those though. Have to finish taking my CTZ and then I can start on the Cascade. Can't wait for cold weather. Pipeline slowly dwindling.

Crap, I was pitching my yeast starter into the fermentor in the dark. I accidentally picked up a package of whirfloc instead of yeast nutrient. I noticed when a tablet plopped into the fermentor. Oh well nothing I can do about it. I don't suppose it will hurt anything.

We've been doing pulverized fruit/veggie drinks around my house. It all started because we stopped at a display I'd ignored many times before at Costco.

Vegi-something a food blender. The guy said the blades spin at 240mph! I don't know how many RPMs that is or whether or not it's super doper fast compared to every other

The salesman said this machine was powered by a 2hp motor similar to most home lawn mowers. Huh?

Mine, I have a push mower and it's cranking about 7hp which is pretty average.

That's not important. I just thought it was a ridiculous thing to tell people. Maybe it was a selling point to the mostly female audience; me being the exception . Sounded impressive but pure bs. Unless Tim Allen said two Horse powered and powerfull ... Them I might believe it. Argh!

Powerful thing. Makes good smoothies and ice cream (I sampled both) and some sort of soup.

My wife wants one of those things and I can't help but admit I'd like one too.

However, I've bought a second hand reliable car for less.

I like the idea of the v -mite thing. The sample drinks were delicious and the idea of getting all 5 stay alive fruits and veggies in one shake is appealing.

But! In my house we already have a pretty good blender that hasn't really been used much. I broke it out and am now using it to turn fleshy citrus, spinach, bananas and some ice into healthy drinks. I like this blender shake thing because it taste pretty good, is quick and is healthy. Takes only a few big swallows and the five thing is out of the way for the day!

For example. This morning. One big whole grapefruit (peeled) big orange, half a lime (peeled as well) a banana, and 5 cubes ice from the tray. Blended that in my not $500 blender.

It came out smooth sweetish tart. I drunk it. Bam! Downed three fruits in three minutes. Done. Haha.

I am getting into the idea of this blender smoothie fad.

I need to go to the grocery store tomorrow because there is a cleansing smoothie I want to start. Lot of greens and some citrus.

I've been making papaya jam the last few weeks, the fruit donated by a neighbor and a friend of his who has a farm on the west side of Oahu. Today we were taking story and he gave me 6 more green papayas. I had just given him two full quarts of papaya jam I had made earlier today - the jars were still warm.

He gives me more papaya than time to eat them. Seems every few days I get a gift of
2-4 pounds of papaya from them.


I've been using them to make jam and have ate some fresh ones two. Today , after realizing I'm probably taking them for granted and not eating them (because I'm not a big fan of the taste) but repurposing them into jam I give away.

I should probably count my blessings that #1. I have a friend - he gives me free papayas. #2. Papayas, called by Christopher Columbus, "the food of Angels" are packed with a bunch of vitamins and antioxidants , plus some helpfull digestive enzymes (in moderation) #3 I know how to make them papaya jam and preserve them through canning.

I suppose it is all a win win situation. I only had joked with him today. That He and I should go business. He gets me the papaya. I make the jam. We sell it at a farmers markets

In all seriousness though, be careful getting into the fruit smoothies. If your body is not accustomed to all the fiber there can be some... erm.. side effects.
