Can a hydrometer be put in the fermentor and left in there after any blow off is complete?

Or would that cause any problems?

Yeah I wouldn't recommend it. Generally, you just take the reading as you need to but do not need a continual reading. That being said, it shouldn't have a negative effect on the beer, but as Rockin M said it might not be accurate.

Are you planning a lot of readings or to find the exact time of the fermentation being finished? Take a reading at 12 days and another a few days later. If the readings are the same you have FG, but then give the beer a few more days in the primary to clear.

Better beers aren't rushed.
