Hey Folks,
16 batches in over the past 12 months- mostly partial mashes.
I've reached the upper limits of the grain bill that I can mash with my current equipment(about 7-8 lbs). I use a 5 gallon round cooler with a stainless braid for the mash, and a 4 gallon brew pot. So until I upgrade my equpiment I had a thought. I usually do a 3 step infusion mash at 122,146, and 155. What if I do the infusions for the 1st 2 rests, and do a decoction for the step up to 155. Is this smart, stupid, or indifferent?
My next brewday is planned for a couple weeks down the road and unless the collective wisdom vetos me, I think I'll give it a try.
Thanks for your consideration,
J.R.
