started with a recipe but had to make a ton of substitutions based on my local homebrew shop.

3.3 lbs. light LME
5 lbs. light DME
1 lb. wheat DME (bag says 55% wheat, is this normal?)
steeping grains 1.25 lbs. carapils
1.25 lbs. crystal 40L
0.5 lbs. chocolate malt
8 oz cascade hops
california ale yeast WLP001

called for centennial and northern brewer hops but couldn't get either one. also this is first time brewing outside. starting with 7 gallons and hopefully ending up with 5.
will this be drinkable? any improvements? thanks

All "wheat" extracts are a mix of wheat and barley- that's just the way it is.

That looks like Janet's Brown Ale, except for the hops! What AAUs are the hops? You'll need to know for bittering the beer, but it's probably very similar to the Northern Brewer hops in the original recipe.

You could get some different varieties of hops, to provide interest in the dryhopping, although I like all cascade beers as well.

very good, it is the janet's ale! cascade aau's are 6.4. i thought some different variety of hops might make it more complex but supplies seem limited here. probably need to start ordering some stuff.
