Hey guys,

I'm interested in using the San Fran lager yeast for an upcoming beer. I've been using brewer's friend website to calculate my starters. Should the San Fran be entered as a lager or an ale? I know some refer to as a hybrid. And yes I'm aware of the fact that white labs calls it a lager. Just curious since its not fermented as cold as a typical lager yeast.

Well it all depends how you are going to use it. If you want to ferment it at lager temps treat it like a lager yeast. and if you want to ferment it at ale temps ferment it as a hybrid. I got to say that wlp810 works really well at lager temps it produces a great beer IMO.

I don't like WLP810 fermented at lager temps- I like the character it gives at 58-65F. I always use the hybrid calculator.
