I picked up a 60qt Ritebrew false bottom for an 80qt Concord kettle. It fits in the kettle, but I do have to apply some force to get it into place. This leaves me with a tight fit and some scratches on kettle finish. Is this normal?

Yes. You should be able to find an angle to get it in a little smoother (hold the FB vertically and try it at 12, 3, 6, 9 o'clock...not fit then rotate the FB a few inches and try those angles again). It is likely not perfectly round.

I had this same issue and took a grinder to my first FB....mistake. The tighter the fit the less grain getting through and making its way to your boil kettle. That old FB now lives in my boil kettle above my bazooka so not a total loss, but the new one was like another $100 or whatever.

Cheers!
