So the first two meads I have were a bread machine yeast with black tea with an 8-9 abv and another with a basic wine mead 15-17 abv. Now the smells are super potent but not unpleasant, as a first time brewer is that bad? They taste super sweet and amazing and neither had any pellicle just potent smell. Is that good?

Like rocket fuel-ish alcohol potent? Sounds normal especially for the higher abv. How old is it? I think you’ve got the answer in the taste.

So I used ‘A Lot’ of honey in my opinion for the first time. Both of them I put 5 lbs into 1 gallon for them but the wine one was really strong and the bread machine one was moderate and had small yellowish bubbles here and there floating atop.

That all sounds fine and the difference in what you’re seeing in the yeasts also makes sense. If you can let a couple age and do some comparisons over time, you will see they develop as they progress.

I also highly recommend taking notes, for the longest time I thought it was silly but finally started about a year and a half ago. Wish I had started sooner.

Thank you, I just got the abv floater after I made the initial musk so the next brew I’m going to be taking notes methodically. But thank you all and wish ya the best on your brews aswell 😆

Ooo I didn’t know that, so early November is when I started and I just did the transfer out of the sediment yesterday, so roughly 4 months
