I am planning to do another batch in a few days since my keg is almost empty and I have another beer that is now in secondary. This is the recipe I have calculated on Promash. It is a English Mild Brown (5 gall)

3kg Pale Ale Malt
250g Crystal medium roast
125g Black Patent
2oz Goldings Bittering + Aroma

My question is that even though it was quantitatively in-spec on Promash, I have not used black patent before. Will this taste alright?

That works out to about 4 oz.; you should be alright. A little goes a long way, so I wouldn't use more than that for a Brown Ale.

Ok thanks. I bought some today and was susprised that it is not actually charcoal black but is just dark brown. I've got six months until it goes out of date and there is enough to last me four batches. The guy always takes me to the back of his shop which is quite strange. I think the majority of people he sells to buy kits.
