American Pale Ale

Grain:
6 lbs. American 2-Row Malt
.75 lbs. Crystal/Caramel Malt 40L
.5 lbs. Cara-Pils

60 minute mash @ 154.

Hops:
.5 oz Citra 60 min
.5 oz Citra 10 min

Pellet hops.

Yeast:
US-05

I'd mash a little lower for a crisper, lighter body beer. Also I would increase the finishing hops up a little and reduce the bittering hops if you want to keep the same IBU.

That's also a very high percentage of crystal malt for an american pale ale, combine that with your high mash temp and I think you're going to have a bit cloying of a beer.

What I would do:

6lbs 2 Row
.25 C40
.25 c-pils

Mash @ 150

and bitter to 50 IBU but add some flameout/later addition hops and reduce the .5 citra @ 60 min.

2-3 weeks in primary and she'll be done, no need for secondary.

In my opinion, that would be a much better beer.

Aewsome! Thanks for the input.

For a 2.5G batch, yeah, drop the crystal and the Carapils by half or so. Other than that, I'd add a dry-hops charge to the equation (another ounce of Citra) and call it good!

Mash anywhere between 150 & 156. 150 will be a little dryer & give a little more alcohol to the end product, & 156 will give nice body. Either one will produce a fine beer.

6# 2 row
.25# Cara-Pils
.25# C40L
.25 oz Citra 60 min
.5 oz Citra 10 min
1 oz Citra Dry Hop

How's that look?

I've never done a Citra SMASH myself, but have seen a few threads with mixed opinions. Some folks don't like the taste of Citra for bittering, others think it is a waste of money when you can use a cheaper hop for bittering and then use the Citra for later additions. I recently did a Warrior/Citra APA, and I will say it came out great with plenty of orange and grapefruit, despite using only Warrior for bittering.
