I racked my dandelion mead to secondary on 12/ 12. I haven't added any sulphites yet, I eventually want a carbonated mead. After racking I added a liter of spring water and a cup of honey. It appears some dormant yeast cells aren't so dormant now. (Yea?) The gravity is now 1.04 and some white foam has appeared on top. I was tempted to toss it, but I figured I'd put this up and get some advice from the hive mind. Do I let it run it's course, racking, filtering and backsweetening, or should I cut my losses and toss it? Is this a bad batch?

Looks like you kicked off a secondary ferment. If you want it carbonated. I would bottle it in a bottle able to handle the pressure. At 1.004 if it goes to dry will give you about 2.5 to 3 volumes of CO2 similar to beer.
