I've read mixed things on using hot water from the faucet to bring the strike/sparge water closer to the correct temperature before putting it on a burner. I read there could be "bad stuff" in the water heater? In a few other threads I read people do this. It would save me some heating time if I could use hot water from the faucet, thoughts?

Hot water heaters have an anode in them to help keep the rust down. Not sure that you want that in your brew. You really do not drink water from the hot faucet. Just my opinion.

Hot tap water has it's uses.

My cherry wheat had just about stopped bubbling. The water in the cooler the pail was sitting in had gotten down to about 60* (it got cool this week). I added a 2 liter bottle filled with hot tap water, then another.

The temp is back up to about 65* now, and the wheat is back to thumping away.

:)

I use it. If you think the crap in your hot water heater is bad, then you don't want to see the pipes that bring the water to your house, especially if you live off an older service.

If you flush your water heater every now and then, you can reduce the build up of nasties.
