Hops additions

I have a question for you guys that are more experienced with recipe's.

I've done quite a few all grain recipes but I was wondering a bit about the Hops Schedules. Several of the recipes I have do additions at 90, 60, 30, and 15 min. Sometimes just 60min and 15min.

What does the hop additions do at those different times? I do them as the recipes call for, but not sure why I'm doing them.

I'm trying to understand so I'm able to create some of my own recipes. Any help would be appreciated
