Hops additions during boil

I think I may have ruined my IPA. After watching some videos, I just realized that I should have just added the hop pellets directly into the boil vs. using a sock and removing after the 60 min boil.

How is this going to affect my brew?
 
This is one of the many debates in brewing. Almost any step in brewing can be done more than one way, and there is always someone who thinks their way is the only way. Many good brewers keep their hops in a sock. Personally, I don't.
 
Cool...I will see how it turns out - then try whole pellets straight in the boil next time and see what changes if any.
