Hop Spider

I just brewed an IPA and used a hop spider for the first time. It worked really well in keeping hop particles from clogging the flow through my pumps and CFC (which had previously been a problem for me). I was using all whole hops and total probably had 14oz or so by the end. The hop spider was so full that they were floating up a few inches above the boil. Any thoughts on how not having free floating hops will affect utilization and hop aromas? It may be better with pellets but I haven't tried yet. Anyone else use a similar setup and have Issues?
