Went to the LHBS to get ingredients for a Pale Ale.
10.33 lbs 2 row
4 oz. crystal 60L
4 oz. carapils
The shop is going out of buisness and didn't have
a lot of hops. Home brew shop guy sold me
1 oz. cluster 7.9% aa
3 oz spalt 2.0 aa.
I was thinking
1oz cluster @ 60 min
1 oz spalt @ 30 min
1 oz spalt @ 0 min
1 oz spalt dry hop
Sound OK?
When I got home I found out Spalt is mostly used in Lagers.
I think I am going to start using Brewmasters Warehouse from now on.
Seems every time I go to LHBS I wind up not getting what I need.

Sounds ok, but you're not going to have a typical american pale ale character. Should be a fine beer though.

I'm not familiar with spalt, never used it, but personally I wouldn't dry hop with it. I would do the rest as planned though. Should turn out fine.

Up to you though!

Spalt is a weird hop for an APA but what can you do? If it were me I'd stick with the Cluster for bittering, throw in 1 oz. of Spalt @ 15 min. for flavor and 2 oz. @ flameout for aroma. This will get you in the low to mid 30's for IBU's which is right where you should be for a pale ale and a nice, spicy hop aroma. Cheers! :mug:

I open a packet of the Spalt it has a really odd aroma.
I am thinking homebrew shop guy, just wanted to get rid of
it, he had a whole box full. I might just run up to the other
store and get something else.
