How much honey malt do you like in a 5 gallon batch of 1.050 pale beer before it becomes too much?

  • 1) 1 to 3% of total grist, or no more than 5oz in a 5 gallon batch?

  • 2) 4 to 6% of total grist, or no more than 10oz?

  • 3) 7 to 9% of total grist, or no more than 1lb?

  • 4) 10 to 12% of total grist, or no more than 1.25lbs?

  • 5) 13% or more. The rest of you are wimps. Muahahaha!

Everyone seems to have an opinion on honey malt. It's either overpowering and you can't use much, or it needs to be used in higher amounts to make any difference. What's your opinion on this?

I go with #2, about 4%. Or 5% if I'm living on the edge.
