Ok, I'm new to the forum, and I'm pretty new to brewing in general, I use beersmith, and it estimated that I would have 1.050 OG, I ended up with 1.071. Below is what I did:

1.5 gallon boil - for 1.25 in the fermenter (actual 1 gallon, new pot boiled off more than expected)
60min - 5oz wheat dry extract
60min - .2oz cascade hops
20min - 1lb wheat dry extract late addition
12min - .75lb ginger root
0 min - .2oz cascade hops
0 min - 8oz honey

1.071 OG - should I be concerned or just let it ferment out?

Thank you in advance

I wouldn't be concerned. It will just be a higher alcohol brew given that it ends at the same finishing gravity. 1.5 gallon batches are hard to judge. The few I have done never turn out perfect, numbers wise.

I calculate 77 gravity points. In 1.25 gallons, that would get you about 1.061.

If your volume is correct, and your weights are correct, it will be within a couple of points of my number. Your sample may not have been mixed correctly.

I suspect you put LME into Beersmith, and not DME.

Oops, I just saw you ended up with 1 gallon. Then I make it 1.077.
