Homebrewing conventions?

Do they exist? Or are competitions the only large gathering events?

The competition is a small part of the National Homebrewers Convention. Other than the NHC, I don't know of any other big homebrewing gatherings.

There are regular AHA rallies all over the US which are pretty big. At least, the one at Stone every year is pretty huge.

There is also a regular yearly event here in SoCal called the Southern California Homebrew Festival which is probably the biggest gathering of homebrewers outside of the NHC.

That's cool but I'm in the northeast anybody know of any up this way?

Well, you can wait until next year and the NHC will be in Philly.
