I always see lots of info for homebrew competitions in Michigan and Wisconsin... but very little for Chicago and the nearby areas. I've looked the Chicago Beer Society website- they meet monthly to drink beer, which is cool... but it doesn't seem to have that big of a homebrew focus. Does anyone here on HBT do the Chicago Beer Society thing? How is it? Are there other clubs or competitions I am missing?

There are several groups in and around the Chicago area. I'm a member of a Plainfield/Naperville/Aurora group called PALE (http://www.palebrewers.org/). There are several members of HBT in this group and we meet once a month at Limestone Brewery in Plainfield.

Thanks for the links! PALE and Knaves both look pretty cool. Those are definitely the type of thing I'm looking for. I live in the city, so both are pretty far treks for me. But you've definitely got me thinking. :mug:

Binny's in the south loop is having a homebrew contest in April, check out their website for details.

Just read about the Plainfield club. I'll need to try and make it out to that one, since it's only a 30 minute drive for me and would love to stop by and check it out.

I'm sure there are more, but check out UKG, PALE, Brixie's Brewers, Northside Homebrewers Connection, BOSS, and maybe Flapjack Brew Club (I can't remember where these guys are). I could be talked into something in the city. I'm in Wicker Park.

For comps, check out the webpage below. Under the circuit page you'll find most of the bigger ones in the area.
