Has anyone ever tried home toasting malt to make dark grain?

I've read Byron Burch's book and plan to give it a go, but wondered if it is worthwhile, or just better to buy it.

'spose there's only one way to find out...try.

Heck yeah! It's a hoot!

I've only done this a couple of times, but we made a nice, lightly toasted malt a la one of those homebrew books. It added a nice toasty, nutty flavor. Give it a whirl, and have fun. I doubt you can go wrong if you use it in modest amounts :D
