Hello all -

After a 3 year hiatus I am back in the home brewing game.

I just cooked up my first batch in some time - Brewers Best Pale Ale. I missed the sweet smell of those hops cooking up :)

This is the first time I've used a liquid yeast. I bought a kit from a local supplier and it included liquid yeast. She said it worked much better than the yeast provided in the BB kits. I guess I don't really understand how ?

I've also never used a secondary fermenter. I do have the glass 5 gallon bottle to use this time. My understanding is that the purpose of the secondary fermenter is to improve clarity. After the intial fermentation is complete, how long should I leave the beer in the secondary fermenter?

Thanks! It's great to be back in the game and making some good beer.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Some folks leave the brew in he secondary for 2 weeks. The last few batches I have done about 10-12 days of primary and about 7-10 days of secondary. Rack carefully from primary and the beer is darn clear.

Welcome!
You can go two to three weeks in the secondary and it will help clarify your beer. Maybe go two weeks so you can get it bottled and have it ready to drink sooner. :mug:

does the liquid yeast really work better than the powder yeast in the BB kit?

It's been about 9 hours since I put the wort in the primary fermenter and I'm not seeing any action yet.

I understand that the liquid yeast is more expensive than the power, but is it really worth it?
