Alright who from NYC is going up this week and can get me a bottle of Fear &Trembling so I can finally try this ******?
 
Dont recall if I ever posted this anecdote here, but while moving last year I found a 3 or 4 year old holger Danske growler in the back of my fridge that I had purchased with the intent of making beef stew.. Assumed it was gross so I began to drain pour it only to look down halfway through and see it was still carbed! Poured the remainder up and it was still tasting pretty good! Smoke had mellowed a bit but that's about it.
How big is your fridge that you don't notice a HF growler for 3+ years?

I don't know whether to be impressed by the beer, or disgusted by the fact you didn't clean your refrigerator for 4 years

It actually traveled between a couple of different apartments/fridges over the years..Every once in a while I'd find it during moves or while cleaning/ shuffling through the dozens of bottles in front of it in the fridge,and then quickly forget about it as I poured up the bottle I was actually looking for lol.. It's not like it was stuck in the back next to an expired carton of milk gathering cobwebs, eventually it turned into a science experiment of sorts
 
This new batch of self reliance #1 is about perfect.....gonna have to get some more this week. Gotta love them Nelson hops.

the initial lime taste from the Motueka seems to be the perfect segue for Nelson...

that said... Conduct of Life is my happy place... this batch is pure sunshine

Drinking a 10/14 Arthur. Still amazing. Not much tartness, more like a great lemon meringue pie.
 
I was 6 beers deep last night :) still not sure what this means. Is Mary getting bottled?

appears to be gauging interest/reaction to the possibility of Mary being bottled and sold by the case. That is all at this point. I wouldn't jump to assumptions that anything else is being packaged.

I think it makes sense. A pPls lends it self differently to bottle conditioning and package/shelf life than a hoppy Pale Ale or IPA... on top of that, it seems that Mary and most Pils (at least for now) have a distinct consumer base. While not as popular with the "craft" crowd as a DIPA might be, there is a following that seems to be growing (and I believe will get big) and the Pils lends itself to being drank much more frequently.

"By the case" would not only appeal to pilsner drinkers but it will also allow it to move at a steadier pace than a bottle here or there.

I've been saying that if someone local packaged a well made Pils and was available regularly and at an affordable price, it could be the exact type of movement that American Beer needs.

That's going to be the key. I love Mary, but I don't know if I would want to pay $5 for a 500mL bottle of it (by the case)

Mary wouldn't be local to me either, but I'd know picking it up that it'd be fresh....

you are definitely paying a premium on Mary... but that's over a pint in a bottle. That will certainly be tougher for what I envision as the cross-over market. For most "craft" drinkers that like Pils though, I don't see that being too difficult to embrace. Perhaps a half case?

Like HF would ever lower themselves to selling their beer in a six pack format. It's like you don't even know them!!!!!

I love a good (great) pilsner, but i will still reach for a pale/IPA 4 outta 5 times. Pilsner's can do pretty darn well in the bottle for upwards of 6 months. So i would definitely pull the trigger on a $60 case of 12 16oz bottles.

It is nice to see pilsners having their moment. Founders investing in a major rollout recently i think speaks to the growing (re)interest in the style. But much like the heralded Belgian styles, it's definitely worth seeking out the original European brands if you can find them fresh and handled properly.

But like natejohnson mentioned, I can go pick up a sixer of Pivo for $12. Mary is a fine pilsner, but say it's $5 for 500mL like I mentioned before (which granted I have zero idea what HF may charge or what size bottles they'd package in) you're paying almost double for Mary. What does Hill charge for a 2L of Mary, currently?

I couldn't disagree more. Most pilsners have hopping rates similar to IPAs, so I'm not sure why you think they do well in bottles for months at a time.
