I stopped by my LHBS to pick up a Brewers Best American Cream Ale kit. But they didn't have one. But they did make up one for me and made me a copy of the BB procedure sheet. When I got home I noticed they substituted in 3# of extra light DME for the extra light LME. The sheet calls for 3.3# of LME. I found this conversion table. Am I right in thinking I need about 2.7# of DME to equal the 3.3# of LME? Thanks!

The extra .3 lbs of DME won't be a big difference so I would add it in. But you could use it for a yeast starter or for conditioning in the bottle.
I'd always heard 3#'s DME was equal to 3.3#'s of LME. I could be wrong!

conversion rate is closer to .8 to 1 or 1.2 to 1 (depending lme to dme or dme to lme), not 1.1 to 1 (lme to dme) based on 3.3#=3#.

Now in 5 gallons, for every # of LME you get about 7 grav points (35 to 37 per pound gallon of wort) DME is 9 point per pound in 5 gallon batch. (44 to 46 per pound gallon of wort)... anyhow if you have .3# of DME that would be about 1/3# or 3 grav points. If you started with an expected OG of 1.040, you might get about a 1.043. Or something like that.

Anyhow I'd probaly just jump it all in because it is easier that way.

Here's the table I found

A quick chart if you don't feel like doing the math
Pounds of Pounds of Extract

Grain Liquid Dry

1.0 0.75 0.6

1.5 1.13 0.9

2.0 1.50 1.2

2.5 1.88 1.5

3.0 2.25 1.8

3.5 2.63 2.1

4.0 3.00 2.4

4.5 3.38 2.7

5.0 3.75 3.0

5.5 4.13 3.3

6.0 4.50 3.6

6.5 4.88 3.9

7.0 5.25 4.2

7.5 5.63 4.5

8.0 6.00 4.8

8.5 6.38 5.1

9.0 6.75 5.4

9.5 7.13 5.7

10.0 7.50 6.0

From what you've all told me the extra DME will not make much difference so I'll just add it in... Thanks all. Making this in the next week or so.
