so I have a listermann Ipa kit, and I was putting the ingredients into Beer Smith, and Listermann's claims the recipe will yield 72 IBU's. Beer smith is saying it will only have 53. Could this be due to beer smith not having listermann's bulk canadian malt extract in it's data base? I used pale liquid extract instead.

I want a very hoppy Ipa, so 53 IBU's would be very dissapointing.

here's the recipe:
8# canadian malt syrup
1# 60L crystal malt
1.5 oz nugget hops (60 min)
1 oz cascade (30 min)
1 oz cascade (0 min)
.5 oz cascade (dry)
us 05 ale yeast

OG 1.065

any help is appreciated!

With the hops count listed, I'd say you'd be around 50IBU. Go with the Beer Smith numbers and add some more hops.

Ok, I ran your ingedients using Beer Calculus and came up with 62IBU. If you add the other .5oz of cascade at 0Min's you'll increase it to 63IBU. Save the centennial and ahtanum for another batch.

thanks! that's precisely what I did. I used the .5 of cascade to add a few pellets at a time from 55 min to 35 minutes, with about .2 added at 45 min. Hopefully it turns out well!
