Hi,

This is my first post hopefully this is in the correct forum. Looking to start my second beer. Figured I'd step up to partial mash. I wanted to use the recipe found here http://www.stonebrew.com/epic/Wca256c660276b.htm By my calculations I will need the following grain bill to get to the desired 1076 starting gravity is this correct or am I off the mark?

SG adjusted for 5 Gallons
5 Gallons * 76 Points = 380
Adjust to DME %
380 Total Points * 87% = 330.6
DME Required
330.6/44PPG DME = 7.51lbs DME

Convert DME to Pale Malt
7.51 * (44/37) = 8.94LBS
Adjust for 70% Efficiency
8.94 * 1/.7 = 12.76 LBS Pale Malt
Flaked Oats Required
12.76 * 6.5% = .83LBS
Light Candi Sugar Required
12.76 * 5.5%= .70LBS
Amber Candi Sugar Required
12.76 * 1% = .13LBS

Total Grain Bill

7.51LBS Light DME
.83LBS Flaked Oats
.70LBS Light Candi Sugar
.13LBS Amber Candi Sugar

Thanks

By and large, properly done, but a couple things:

First, when recipes list percentages, that convention is that the number describes a portion of the grist's weight, not it's sugar contributions.

Second, flaked oats by themselves won't mash, because they haven't been malted. You need to leave some of your DME behind as 2-row.

Post back if you need help redoing the numbers :mug:

Edit: also, this should be in the ingredients forum. The recipes database is for the tried and true.
