I harvested and washed my first batch of yeast last weekend.

My brew partner wanted to syphon straight off the cake into sterilized jars.

He didn't see the point in washing, and I didn't know what to tell him. What issues could he run into with his unwashed yeast?

Alot of people rack straight onto the yeast cake and use em over and over again without much problems, the only thing that pops to mind immediatly is that if you dont wash the yeast and drop the cake straight onto your next batch is that you are almost certainly over pitching the yeast which is never a good thing.

Also, when you wash you are getting all the healty yeast and leaving the bad/dead/sleepy ones behind in the trub.
