Now that we’ve gathered a crew of home brewers to join The Harlan Society (our open-source project to revive heritage barley varieties), we thought it an appropriate time to come out with an article about its namesake, Harry Harlan. He was perhaps the first man to devote himself fully to the study of barley.

He adventured across the globe collecting the world’s barley seeds, which have provided the genetic foundation for today’s barley, and thus today’s beer! On top of that, we think he had some pretty important things to say about heritage seeds.

Thanks for posting! Part of learning any craft, skill , trade or hobby begins with its history. My family are closet history buffs and I love articles like this.

Keep em coming...
