I know that 1.010 SG is the magic number to signal the end of a sparge, but does this refer to the actual hydrometer reading from the runoff, or does temperature correction need to be taken into consideration? For instance, 1.010 SG at 160 F is corrected to 1.032 for a 60 F calibrated hydrometer. This is a pretty significant difference. Which number do I use?

Actual gravity.

Cool the sample first, then read if using a hydrometer. 1.032 is NOT the cutoff point (there's ordinary bitters that low in OG!).

(drop $40, get a refractometer and save yourself a headache. Money well-spent. :mug:)
